This is a tutorial in genetic sequence classification tools and techniques starting with genetic sequence letters and base definitions. We then move on to sequence file formats and examples including plain sequence format, FASTA, GenBank, and SAM \ BAM. Next, sequence tokenization techniques are explored. This includes comparing tokenized sequences using Jaccard Similarity. We then describe feature space size and its impact on genetic sequence classification. Finally, various sequence alignment, counting, and classification tools are described including BLAST, MegaBlast, JellyFish, RDP, Kraken, and Strand.
